The School : Summerhill International School

Having started just 13 yrs ago in 2010, Summerhill International School has carved a niche for itself in Dehradun as being the best primary school. What makes us unique is the personal care and attention that every child gets from trained and highly experienced staff. Students are given a solid foundation through a structured curriculum that focuses on the overall development of the child: physical , social and emotional , language and communication, numeracy and knowledge and understanding of the world. The school believes that every child has the potential to excel.

Summerhill International  School recognizes the differences among learners and utilizes diverse educational approaches and methods in order to provide a curriculum that best suits each child both at the individual and group level. Summerhill International School enables the child to interact directly with his/her environment in order to learn successfully, and builds on the knowledge and skills that he/she brings to the institution.

The child will learn and benefit equally from his/her experiences inside and outside the realm of the classroom. Connections are made between languages and arts, science and reasoning, mathematics and experimentation, creative experiences and communication skills. The curriculum is enriched by forging links between each subject, in accordance with the ideas of integrated education.

Children are also encouraged to work co-operatively without the direct supervision of the facilitators. At Summerhill International School, the environment encourages a spirit of free inquiry, choice making, and opportunities for individual as well as group experiences. This forms the basis of our experiential curriculum.

The Director

Mrs. Promila Kaul

The school is run by a very renowned educator who has international credentials. Trained at the University of Cambridge , UK, Mrs. Promila Kaul has spent 35+ yrs teaching in the most prestigious institutions of the country , the last being Welham Girls School, Dehradun, where she worked for 14 yrs as a Dean.  Mrs. Kaul is also an education consultant and travels all over the country to conduct workshops for teachers and students. She has helped in setting up new schools, including the Himjyoti School here on Sahastradhara Road of which she is the  Founder Principal. An elected member of the Executive Committee of the Uttarakhand State Council for Child Welfare. Mrs Kaul is involved in many social activities and is highly respected in the education circuit in Dehradun and all over the country.
